わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、南千島それに朝鮮半島、中国東北部に分布しています。山地帯から亜高山帯の沢沿いに生えます。葉は卵形から長楕円形で対生します。５月から６月ごろ、葉腋から花柄を下げて淡緑白色の花を咲かせます。蒴果は９月に熟して紫紅色になります。花弁や果実の翼は５数性です。

ニシキギ科ニシキギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Euonymus planipes。英名はありません。

"Oo-tsuribana" (Euonymus planipes) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Hanshu to Hokkaido of Japan, as well as the soruthern Kurile Islands, the Korean Peninsula and northeast China. This tree grows in along mountain streams at montane to subalpine zone. The leaves are ovate to oblong and opposite. The drooping peduncles are borne at the axiles, and the pale grenish white flowers bloom from May to June. The fruits are capsules, ripen peach bloom in September. The flowers and the wings of capsules are pentamerous.
