ヨーロッパの地中海沿岸に分布しています。草原や湿った土地に生え、高さは１５〜４０センチになります。４月から６月ごろ、長い花茎を伸ばし、緩やかな総状花序に白い花を咲かせます。両性花で、昆虫によって受粉されます。鱗茎は食用になるそうです。

The Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum narbonense) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed along the Mediterranean coast of Europe. It grows in meadows and damp areas and grows 15-40 cm tall. From April to June, it produces long flower stalks with white flowers in loose racemes. The flowers are bisexual and are pollinated by insects. The bulbs are edible.
