わが国の北海道から本州、四国それに北半球に分布しています。林内の倒木の上などに生える樹状地衣類です。子柄が長く伸び、先端は盃状もしくは裂片状になります。その縁に肉紅色の子器をつけます。子柄には多くの鱗片があります。名前は、子柄の色が「うぐいす(鶯)」の色に似ていることから。 
ハナゴケ科ハナゴケ属の地衣類で、学名は Cladonia gracilis ssp. turbinata。英名は Cup lichen。 
The cup lichen (Cladonia gracilis ssp. turbinata) belongs to the Cladoniaceae family. It is a fruticose lichen that is distributed to Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku of Japan and the Northern hemisphere. This lichen grows on fallen trees in the forest. The podetia grows long and with cup-like or lobe-like tips. The carneous red apothecia are borne at the edge of podetium tips. The podetia have many squamules. The Japanese name is because the color of the podetia are similar to that of the Japanese bush warbler (Cettia diphone).
