うこんざくら (鬱金桜)

わが国では、江戸時代の中頃から記録がある「さとざくら」の栽培品種です。４月の中旬ごろ、直径４センチほどの八重咲きの花を咲かせます。開いた花弁の色は淡い黄緑色で、「うこん」の根を使った鬱金染めに似ています。個体によっては、花弁に緑色の部分が見られます。ただつぼみは淡紅色です。 |

バラ科サクラ属の落葉高木で、学名は Prunus lannesiana cv. Grandiflora。英名はありません。 |

The "Ukon-zakura" (Prunus lannesiana cv. Grandiflora) belongs to the Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is a cultivar of the "Sato-zakura" (Prunus lannesiana), which has been recorded in Japan since the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868), it produces double-petaled flowers about 4 cm in diameter around the middle of April. The color of the open petals is a pale yellowish green, similar to the color of ukon dye made from the root of the "ukon" plant. Depending on the individual, greenish areas can be seen on the petals. The buds, however, are light red. |
