ヨーロッパに分布しています。標高２９００メートル未満の放牧地や明るい林内に生え、高さは３０〜１５０センチになります。葉は広卵形で茎を抱き、縦方向にはひだがあります。６月から８月ごろ、星形で白色の花を咲かせます。花披片は外側が淡い緑色、または全体が緑黄色です。

ユリ科シュロソウ属の多年草で、学名は Veratrum album。英名は White false helleborine。

|
The white false helleborine (Veratrum album) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb grows in meadows and open woodlands, to 2900 m elevation, and can reach 30-150 cm in height. The leaves are broad ovate, pleated lenghwise, and enfold stems. The flowers are starry white and bloom from June to August. The tepals are pale green outside or all greenish-yellow.
