アメリカおよびメキシコが原産です。荒廃地や道ばたに生え、高さは30〜90センチになります。茎はよく分枝し、葉は灰緑色でほとんど三角形、縁には鋸歯があります。4月から10月ごろ、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径5センチほどになり、3裂した舌状花があります。 
キク科ハチミツソウ属の一年草で、学名は Verbesina encelioides。英名は Cowpen daisy、Golden crownbeard。 
The cowpen daisy (Verbesina encelioides) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to the Unites States and Mexico. This herb grows on disturbed ground and roadside, and up to a height of 30-90 cm. The stem is well-branched and the leaves are grayish-green, nearly triangular with toothed margins. The yellow flowers bloom from April to October. The flower heads are up to 5 cm across and have 3-toothed rays.
