中央アメリカが原産です。根茎ベゴニアの一種で、高さは４５センチほどになります。葉は掌状に分裂し、濃色の模様があります。葉の裏面は赤ワイン色です。葉柄は緑色で赤色の毛が生えます。冬に淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。

シュウカイドウ科シュウカイドウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Begonia heracleifolia。英名は Star begonia。

The star begonia (Begonia heracleifolia) belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Central America. It is a rhizomatous species and grows about 45 cm in height. The leaves are divided into palmately lobes and have dark markings. The leaf undersides are burgundy. The petioles are green with red hairs. The pale pink flowers appear in winter.
