The red passion flower (Passiflora coccine) belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is native to Venezuela and Bolivia. The leaves and stems are hairy. The dark red flowers bloom on the axillary peduncles. The flower consists of five petals and five sepals. The common name is derived that the shape of the flowers conjure up the image of the Passion of Jesus. It is similar to the passion fruit.
