ヨーロッパ東南部原産の「せいようとちのき（Aesculus hippocastanus）」と北アメリカ原産の「あかばなとちのき（Aesculus pavia）」との交雑種です。高さは８〜１０メートルほどになります。陰樹ですが日当たりが良くても耐えられるため、近ごろはよく、公園にも植栽されています。５月から６月ごろ、淡紅色の花を咲かせます。

トチノキ科トチノキ属の落葉高木で、学名は Aesculus x carnea。英名は Red horsechestnut。

The red horsechestnut (Aesculus x carne) belongs to Hippocastanaceae (the Horse-chestnut family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is a hybrid between the horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanus) and the red buckeye (Aesculus pavia). This tree can reach 8-10 m in height. It is a shade tree and also tolerant of sun exposure, it is used as a park tree recently. The pale rose pink flowers bloom May to June.
