The Zamia fern (Bowenia spectabilis) belongs to the family Stangeriaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed in the northeastern part of Queensland, Australia. It grows in the forest floor of humid tropical rainforests and reaches a height of 1.5 to 2 m. It has a thick tuberous root underground, measuring approximately 30 cm in length and 12 cm in diameter. The stem forms a crown at its tip, consisting of 1 to 7 leaves. The leaves are bipinnate, 1 to 2 m long, with 7 to 30 lanceolate leaflets. The indigenous people of Australia used the roots for food.
