Dovyalis hebecarpa x abyssinica

Florida apricot (Dovyalis hebecarpa x abyssinica) belongs to the family Flacourtiaceae. It is a semi-tall semi-deciduous tree that is a hybrid from Florida. This cultivar was developed in 1953 from a cross between "Kitembilla" (Dovyalis hebecarpa) and "Abyssinian gooseberry" (Dovyalis abyssinica). This tree grows to more than 7.5 m tall. Its long branches are covered with 5-10 cm long, deep green leaves and often with thorns. The fruitis are thin-skinned, 2-5 cm in diameter, turning from green to pale yellow-orange to red when fully ripe. The soft yellow-orange flesh is usually sour, with a distinctive apricot-like flavor. Some larger fruits contain 1-5 seeds, although most fruits are seedless.
