わが国の各地に分布しています。山地の日当たりのよい場所に生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。葉はへら形で根生し、羽状に分裂して、頂小葉が大きいのが特徴です。茎葉は細く羽状に中裂します。４月から６月ごろ、茎の先端に白い４弁花を咲かせます。花後、茎は倒れて、葉腋に新苗ができます。

アブラナ科ヤマハタザオ属の多年草で、学名は Arabis gemmifera。英名はありません。

"Hakusan-hatazao" (Arabis gemmifera) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan. The leaves are spatulate, basal and divided in pinnate lobes, with large terminal segments. The cauline leaves are finely split into pinnate lobes. The four-petaled white flowers come on the tip of the stem from April to June. After flowering, the stems fall down and new seedlings can be produced on the axils.
