わが国の本州、山陰地方以北の日本海側から北海道に分布しています。「いぬつげ」の変種で、多雪地の山地の湿地などに生えます。幹の下部は地面を這って広がり、高さは１〜１．５メートルになります。葉は楕円形で硬く、互生します。６月から７月ごろ、葉腋に小さな白い４弁花を咲かせます。雌雄異株で、球形の核果は黒く熟します。 |

モチノキ科モチノキ属の常緑低木で、学名は Ilex crenata var. paludosa。英名はありません。 |

The "Hai-inu-tsuge" (Ilex crenata var. paludosa) belongs to Aquifoliaceae (the Holly family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native from Sanin district to the Japan Sea side of Honshu and Hokkaido. It is a variety of "Inu-tsuge" and grows in the mountain bogs of heavy-snow region. The under stems crawl on the grounds and the plant can reach 1-1.5 m in height. The leaves are elliptic, stiff and arranged oppositely. The small white four-petaled flowers bloom on the axils from June to July. It is dioecious. The fruits are round drupes and ripen black. |
