わが国の各地をはじめ、サハリンにも分布しています。海岸の砂地や岩上に生え、幹は地面を這います。葉は針状で３個ずつ輪生し、先端は鋭く尖ります。雌雄異株です。４月から５月ごろ、黄褐色で楕円形の雄花と球形の雌花を咲かせます。果実は球果で、翌年の秋に紫黒色に熟くします。

ヒノキ科ネズミサシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Juniperus conferta。英名はありません。

The "Hai-nezu" (Juniperus conferta) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in various parts of Japan and also in Sakhalin. This tree grows in coastal dunes or rocks and the trunks are creeping on the ground. The leaves are needle-like and three whorled with acute tips. It is dioecious. It is borne yellowish-brown elliptic male-flowers or globous female-flowers from April to May. The fruits are strobiles and ripen in purplish-black in next year's fall.
