ヨーロッパが原産です。現在では北半球の冷温帯地域を中心に広く分布しています。わが国へは明治時代の終わりに帰化しましたが、とくに本州の中部地方以北で多く見ることができます。高さは３０〜７０センチほどで、根生葉と下部の葉は羽状に裂け、上部の葉は厚くて光沢があり、波形の鋸歯があります。４月から６月ごろ、鮮やかな黄色の４弁花を咲かせます。別名で「せいようやまがらし（西洋山芥子）」とも呼ばれます。 |

The Yellow rocket (Barbarea vulgaris) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. It is also distributed to the region there center on the cool temperate area of the Northern Hemisphere. It was naturalized in Japan on the late date of Meiji Era (1868-1912). This herb can be found easily in central and northern Honshu. It can reach 30-70 cm in height. The basal and underneath leaves are pinnatifid, and the upper leaves are thick and glossy with wavy toothed edges. The bright yellow, four-petaled flowers bloom from April to June. |
