わが国の本州、関東地方から近畿地方、それに四国に分布しています。日当たりの良い草地や雑木林などに生え、高さは15〜20センチになります。葉は線形で暗紫緑色、根生します。葉の真ん中には白色の縦縞が目立ちます。3月から4月ごろ、花茎をのばして、白色の花を咲かせます。花披片は6個あり、暗紫色の縦縞があります。花茎には3個の苞があります。鱗茎は甘く、食用になります。
ユリ科アマナ属の多年草で、学名は Amana latifolia。英名はありません。
"Hirohano-Amana" (Amana latifolia) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native westward from Kanto district to Kinki district of Honshu and Shikoku. This herb grows in sunny grasslands or copses, and can reach 15-20 cm in height. The leaves are linear, dark purple-green and basal. The leaf has a visible central longitudinal stripe of white. The flowering stalks are borne and the white flowers bloom from March to April. The flower has six tepaled and with central longitudinal stripes of dark purple. The three bracts are arranged at the flowering stalk. The bulbs are sweet and edible.
