The Winged-stem passion flower (Passiflora alata) belongs to the Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen woody vine that is native to the Amazon in Brazil. The stems are quadrangular, stout with wings. The leaves are large, ovate or ovate-elliptic. The flowers are dark red, 10-12 cm across. The filaceous coronas are elongate and white, red or purple mottled. The fruits are similar to Giant granadilla ((Passiflora quadrangularis)), though they are smaller and about 10 cm long.
