中央アメリカが原産です。林地に生え、蔓性で１２メートルほどに伸びます。葉の表面はざらつきます。茎の先端に３０センチ以上になる総状花序をつけ、紫色の花を咲かせます。花は２〜３日で萎みますが、青色の萼片が長く残り、灰色に変わります。 |

クマツヅラ科ペトレア属の常緑低木で、学名は Petrea volubilis。英名は Queen's wreath、Purple wreath、Sandpaper vine。 |

The Queen's wreath (Petrea volubilis) belongs to Verbenaceae (the Verbena family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Central America. This climbing tree grows in the forests and it can reach about 12 m in height. The leaves have rough surfaces. The long racemes over 30 cm long are borne on the terminal branches and bloom purplish flowers. The flowers will fade after couple of days, though the blue sepals remain long time and turn in gray. |
