アメリカの中南部、テキサス州からニューメキシコ州それにメキシコ北部に分布しています。山地から亜高山帯の乾燥した平原やマツ林などに生え、高さは60センチほどになります。綿毛に被われた茎は直立し、基部の葉はへら形から倒卵形です。2月から10月ごろ、分枝した枝先に直径3〜4センチの黄色い頭花を咲かせます。舌状花は3〜5個あります。全体にセスキテルペンラクトン(Sesquiterpene lactone)が含まれ、ヒツジには特に有毒です。 
キク科プシロストロフェ属の多年草で、学名は Psilostrophe tagetina。英名は Woolly paperflower。 
The woolly paperflower (Psilostrophe tagetina) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native from the midsouthern United States; Texas and New Mexico to northern Mexico. This herb grows in montane to subalpine arid plains and pine woods, up to about 60 cm in height. The wooly stems are erect and the basal leaves are spatulate to ovovate. The yellow flower-heads, 3-4 cm across bloom atop of the branched twigs from February to October. The each flower-head has 3-5 ray flowers. It contains sesquiterpene lactone throughout and is especially toxic to sheep.
