キャニモモ (卵の木)

インド南部からマレー半島に分布しています。「マンゴスチン」の近縁で、高さは９〜１２メートルになります。葉は長楕円形で大きく、表面には光沢があり、うな垂れます。白色の花が咲き、テニスボールくらいの果実となります。熟すと黄色くなり、生食やジャムに利用されます。別名で、「たまごのき（卵の木）」とも呼ばれます。 |

オトギリソウ科フクギ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Garcinia xanthochymus。英名は Gamboge、False mangosteen。 |

The gamboge (Garcinia xanthochymus) belongs to the Clusiaceae family. It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed from southern India to the Malay Peninsula. It is close to "Mangosteen", the height is 9-12 m. The leaves are oblong, glossy on the surface, and drooping. The white flowers bloom, they will become fruit of about tennis ball. The fruits ripen yellow, and are used for raw eating and jam. |
