わが国の本州、三浦半島・房総半島南部以南から東アジア、南アジアに広く分布しています。温暖な海岸地帯に生え、１．５〜１．８メートルになります。わが国に自生するものは変種で、「はまおもと（Crinum asiaticum var. japonicum）」と呼ばれます。偽茎から厚くて光沢のある帯状の葉をだします。７月から９月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして茎頂に散形花序をだし、芳香のある白色の花を咲かせます。花披片は６個あり、花糸は紫色を帯びます。 |

The spider lily (Crinum asiaticum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed widely, from the Miura Peninsula, the southern Boso Peninsula of Honshu to East Asia and South Asia. This herb grows in temperate coastal area, and up to a height of 1.5-1.8 m. The plants native to our country are varieties, and called "Hama-omoto" (Crinum asiaticum var. japonicum). It bears thick, shiny and strip leaves from the pseudostems. The fragrant white flowers bloom in the umbels of the shoot apices from July to September. The flower has six tepals and purplish filaments. |
