The Yellow crane orchid (Phaius flavus) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from southern Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, Taiwan, southern China, and from Southeast Asia to India. It grows on the forest floor within evergreen forests, reaching a height of about 50 cm. Several leaves extend from the tip of the pseudobulb; they are large, elliptical, and slightly wrinkled lengthwise. In early summer, it extends a scape horizontally from the base of the pseudobulb, bearing a dozen or so flowers at its tip. The petals are a vivid yellow. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "黄花鶴頂蘭", and in Chinese, "黄花鶴頂蘭".
