オーストラリアのニューサウスウェールズ州が原産です。高さは、8〜15メートルになります。葉は偶数2回羽状複葉で、銀灰色をしています。わが国へは明治時代に渡来し、暖地で庭木や切り花用に栽培されています。1月から2月ごろ、総状花序をつけ、芳香のある黄色い花を咲かせます。オーストラリアの国花です。 
ネムノキ科アカシア属の常緑高木で、学名は Acacia baileyana。英名は Cootamundra wattle。 
The Cootamundra wattle (Acacia baileyana) belongs to Mimosaceae (the Mimosa family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to New South Wales, Australia. This tree can reach 8-15 m in height. The leaves are silver-gray and bipari-pinnately compound. This tree was introduced to Japan in the Meiji Era. It is planted in gardens in the warmer parts of the country and its branches are used in flower arrangement. The fragrant yellow flowers bloom on racemes in January to February. The Cootamundra wattle is the national flower of Australia. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
