ヨーロッパの南西部と北アフリカのモロッコに分布しています。雑木林や岩場の斜面などに生え、高さは１５〜４０センチになります。茎は基部から分枝して、斜上するか地面を這います。葉は倒卵形から狭い楕円形または線形で、下面には細かい毛が生えます。１月から４月ごろ、鮮やかな青色の花を咲かせます。園芸品種も多く、「アルバ（cv. Alba）」や「ケンブリッジブルー（cv. Cambridge Blue）」、「グレースワード（cv. Grace Ward）」、「ヘブンリーブルー（cv. Heavenly Blue）」などがあります。

ムラサキ科グランドラ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Glandora prostrata (syn. Lithodora prostrata)。英名は Shrubby gromwell、Creeping gromwell。

The Shrubby gromwell (Glandora prostrata) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in southwestern Europe and Morocco in North Africa. It grows in thickets and on rocky slopes, and is 15-40 cm tall. The stem is branched from the base and either ascends obliquely or creeps along the ground. The leaves are obovate to narrowly elliptic or linear with fine hairs on the underside. It produces bright blue flowers from January to April. There are many garden varieties, including 'Alba', 'Cambridge Blue', 'Grace Ward', and 'Heavenly Blue'.
