"Koshiji-shimotsuke-so" (Filipendula purpurea var. auriculata) belongs to the Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the Japan Sea Side of Honshu, from Yamagata prefecture south to Toyama prefecture. This herb grows in mountains to deep mountains, along mountain streams, wettish places or forest edges, and up to a height of 30-100 cm. The leaves are palmate compund with 5-7 lobes. At the base of the petiole, there is a green, ear-shaped stipule. Small flowers of pink color will bloom at the corymbs-like inflorescence of the branches from June to August.
