わが国の本州、近畿地方以西から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国東北部に分布しています。湿地などに生え、高さは60〜120センチになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、線形の小葉は5〜7対あります。8月から10月ごろ、枝先に楕円形の穂状花序をだし、白色の花を咲かせます。雄しべは萼片より長く突き出しています。 
バラ科ワレモコウ属の多年草で、学名は Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. parviflora。英名はありません。 
"Kobana-no-waremokou" (Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. parviflora) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Kinki district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China. This herb grows in waste places and can reach 60-120 cm in height. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with 5-7 pairs of linear leaflets. The elliptic clusters are borne on the terminal branches and bloom white flowers. The stamens are long and protruded from the calyx lobes.
