わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道に分布しています。亜高山帯の林縁や高山の低木帯に生え、高さは５０〜１５０センチになります。樹皮は灰黒褐色ですが、若枝は赤褐色です。葉は広楕円形または広卵形で互生し、葉柄はなく全縁です。６月から７月ごろ、葉腋に紅色を帯びた花を下垂して咲かせます。果実は上向きにつき、紫黒色に熟します。 |

ツツジ科スノキ属の落葉低木で、学名は Vaccinium ovalifolium。英名はありません。 |

"Kuro-usugo" (Vaccinium ovalifolium) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native from Chubu district of Honshu north to Hokkaido in Japan. This tree grows in sub-alpine forest-edges and alpine scrublands, and it can reach 50-150 cm in height. The baks is grayish-black brown, though it reddish brown when young. The leaves are broad elliptic ot broad ovate, lacking petioles, entire, and arranged in alternate. The rose-pink tinged flowers bloom descending in the axils from June to July. The fruis are produced upright and ripen purplish-black. |
