マダガスカル島の南西部に分布しています。茎は円筒状で、巻きひげをだして他の樹木などによじ登ります。葉は直径５センチほどの円形から楕円形で多肉質です。春に花序をだし、小さな黄緑色の花を咲かせます。雌株には小さな果実ができます。園芸上は「グリーンドラム」とも呼ばれます。 |

The Silver dollar plant (Xerosicyos danguyi) belongs to Cucurbitaceae (the Gourd family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern part of Madagascar. The stem is cylindrical, and it climbs up other trees and plants with tendrils. The leaves are fleshy, round to elliptic, and about 5 cm in diameter. In the spring, it produces inflorescences of small yellow-green flowers. The female plants bear small fruits. It is also called "Green drum" in horticultural terms in Japan. |
