The "Momiji-gasa" (Parasenecio delphiniifolius) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native southward from southern Hokkaido to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. This herb grows in montane forests and it can reach about 90 cm in height. The leaves are divided into palmetely, similar to maple, with long petioles. The white flower-heads bloom in the narrow panicles from August to September. The young shoots are called "Shidoke" in Tohoku district and used for boiled vegetable.
