わが国の本州、中部地方以西から四国・九州それに中国に分布しています。日当たりの良い山野などでふつうに見られます。４月から５月ごろ、白い５弁花を下垂して咲かせます。果実は６月から７月に、オレンジ色に熟します。和名は、 葉が長くて「かえで」のように切れ込んでいることから。でもするどい棘があり、山歩きには悩まされます。中国語では「掌葉复盆子（zhang ye fu pen zi）」と呼ばれます。

バラ科キイチゴ属の落葉低木で、学名は Rubus palmatus。英名はありません。

The "Nagaba-momiji-ichigo" (Rubus palmatus) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed westward Chubu-district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as China. This tree can be found commonly in the sunny fields and mountains. The white five-petaled flowers bloom descending from April to May. The fruits ripen orange in June through July. The Japanese name comes from the fact that its leaves are long and deeply lobed, resembling those of a maple tree. But they have sharp thorns, which can be a nuisance when hiking in the mountains. It is called "掌葉复盆子" (zhang ye fu pen zi) in Chinese.
