わが国の本州、宮城県以南の太平洋側から四国、九州に分布しています。山地の林縁に生え、高さは２～５メートルになります。葉は楕円形から広楕円形で対生、先端は尖り、縁に細かい鋸歯があります。５月から６月ごろ、枝先や葉腋に散房花序をだし、淡黄白色の花を１～３個咲かせます。花は後に紅色に変わります。花冠は漏斗形で、先端は５裂します。果実は円筒形の蒴果です。

スイカズラ科タニウツギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Weigela decora。英名はありません。

The "Nishiki-utsugi" (Weigela decora) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from the Pacific side of Miyagi Prefecture of Honshu south to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in montane forest edges and up to a height of 2-5 m. The leaves are elliptic to broad elliptic, arranged in opposite with acute tips and fine toothed edges. The corymbs are borne at the terminal branches and axils, and bloom 1-3 pale yellowish white flowers from May to June. The flowers will turn rose pink later. The corola is funnel-shaped with five partite tips. The fruits are cylindric seed capsules.
