Musa acuminata の２倍体で、品種群としてはＡＡ栽培型です。これは、フィリピンで最も一般的なバナナ品種のひとつであり、ラツンダンバナナおよびサババナナと並んでいます。ふつう高さは１．５〜２．７メートルになります。果実は、ラツンダンバナナよりも長くて皮が厚く、熟すると特徴的な黄橙色に変わります。これにはクエン酸が多く含まれ、やや酸味が高く味が濃いです。フィリピンではキャベンディッシュバナナよりも味が好まれ、最も流通量が多い品種となっています。

The Lacatan banana (Musa acuminata cv. Lacatan) belongs to the Musaceae (the Banana family). It is an evergreen herb that is a diploid (AA) cultivar. It is one of the most common banana cultivars in the Philippines, along with the Latundan and Saba bananas. This banana typically grow to a height of 1.5-2.7 m. The fruits are longer and thicker-skinned than the Latundan bananas and turn a characteristic yellow-orange when ripe. They contain a lot of citric acid, slightly sour and deep. In the Philippines, the taste is preferred over the Cavendish banana, making it the most distributed variety.
