地中海沿岸に分布しています。一属一種で、草地に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。茎は根元から分枝し、やわらかい葉は線形です。４月から５月ごろ、茎頂に扁平な長卵形の花穂をつけます。和名では「うさぎのお（兎の尾）」と呼ばれます。写真中３〜１０および下は、矮性の園芸品種、「バニーテール（cv. Bunny Tail）」。

イネ科ラグラス属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Lagurus ovatus。英名は Hare's-tail grass。

The Hare's-tail grass (Lagurus ovatus) belong to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an annual or a biennial herb that is native to the coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the only species in the genus Lagurus. This herb grows in grasslands and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The stems are much branched at bases and the leaves are linear. The flower panicles are flat long ovate and produced at stem apices from April to May. Photos 4th-11th and bottom show the dwarf garden variety 'Bunny Tail'.
