The Sierra lessingia (Lessingia leptoclada) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is endemic to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California in the United States. It grows in mountain forests, on open slopes, and along roadsides, and grows to a height of about 90 cm. The stems are erect and the branches are long and spreading. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate with serrated edges and wooly hairs. The flower heads have no ray florets, but rather numerous tubular flowers that are pink, lavender, or pale blue-purple in color. The fruit is achene with whitish pappus.
