ヨーロッパアルプスに分布しています。ふつうに見られる「しゅっこんあま（宿根亜麻）」の矮性タイプです。高山帯の岩礫地に生え、高さは２５〜３０センチになります。葉は濃緑色、狭い披針形でらせん状につきます。晩春から夏にかけて、淡い青色の５弁花を、分枝した花序に咲かせます。

The Alpine perennial flax (Linum perenne ssp. alpinum) belongs to Linaceae (the Flax family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Alps. It is also a compact form of the popular Perennial flax (Linum perenne). This herb grows in alpine screes and it can reach 25-30 cm in height. The leaves are deep green, narrow lanceolate, and arranged spirally. The pale blue, five petaled flowers bloom in the branched clusters from late spring to mid summer.
