アメリカ南部のルイジアナ州、ミシシッピー川下流のデルタ地帯の分布する「あやめ」の総称です。自然変異や自然交雑が多く、花色の豊富さが特徴です。また人工的な品種改良も進んでいます。高さは90センチほどになり、7〜15センチほどの花を咲かせます。花被片は厚みがあります。 
アヤメ科アヤメ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Iris sp.。英名は Louisiana iris。 
The Louisiana iris (Iris sp.) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is an evergreen herb that is a general term for "iris" that is distributed in the delta area of the lower Mississippi River in Louisiana in the southern United States. There are many natural mutations and natural crosses, and it is characterized by abundant flower colors. In addition, artificial breeding is progressing. The height is about 90 cm, and the flowers are about 7 to 15 cm. The perianth segments are thick.
