"Raseita-so" (Boehmeria biloba) belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Pacific Ocean Sea side of Japan; southward from southern Hokkaido to the Kii Peninsula. This herb grows in coastal bluffs or scrags and can reach 30-90 cm in height. The stems are thick and clumping. The leaves are broad ovate-elliptic, thick and opposite. They are having rough and wrinkled surfaces. The short clusters are borne and the pale yellowish-green flowers bloom from July to September. The Japanese name "Raseita" is named for the woolen textile "Rexeta".
