中央アメリカのメキシコからパナマに分布しています。高さは１．５メートルほどになり、葉は薄く紙質、長楕円形です。一年を通じて、枝先の集散花序に鮮やかなピンク色の花を咲かせます。開花の中心は、春から夏にかけてです。花には甘い香りがあり、日没後に強くなります。

アカネ科ベニマツリ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rondeletia leucophylla。英名は Panama rose、Bush pentas。

The Panama rose (Rondeletia leucophylla) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native from Mexico to Panama. This tree can reach about 1.5 m in height. The leaves are thin, papery and oblong. The bright-pink flowers bloom in the terminal cymes through the year, though their main flush is in spring to summer. The flowers are sweetly fragrant, especially after sunset.
