メキシコ西部が原産のマドレンシス種（Salvia madorensis）の園芸品種です。高さは２メートル以上になり、１０月から１１月ごろ、長い穂状花序をだして黄色い筒状花を咲かせます。わが国でも本州の関東地方以西では、枝を切り、根元を落葉などで被えば越冬できます。

シソ科アキギリ属の多年草で、学名は Salvia madorensis cv. Yellow Majesty。英名は Salvia 'Yellow Majesty'。

The Salvia 'Yellow Majesty' (Salvia madorensis cv. Yellow Majesty) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is a cultivar of the Salvia madolensis; native to western Mexico. This herb can reach up to 2 m in height. The long spikes are borne and the yellow tubular flowers bloom from October to November. It can pass the winter in the west of the Kanto region of Japan.
