さんぼうかん (三宝柑)

わが国の本州、和歌山県が原産です。「ゆず（柚）」と「だいだい（橙）」の自然交雑種と考えられていますが、果実は風味がよく淡白です。名前は、江戸時代に和歌山城内にただ１本の原木があり、その果実を三方（三宝）に載せて献上したことからと言われています。この果実は明治時代になって広がり、和歌山県湯浅町の特産になっています。 |

"Sanbo-kan" (Citrus sulcata) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Wakayama prefecture, Honshu, Japan. It is considered to be a natural hybrid of "Yuzu" and "Bitter orange", but the fruits are tasty and bland in taste. It is said that the name comes from the fact that there was only one log in Wakayama Castle during the Edo period, and the fruit was presented with the "Sanpo" (small wooden stand). This fruits spread in the Meiji era and is a specialty of Yuasa Town, Wakayama Prefecture. |
