The Red elder (Sambucus racemosa) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to Europe and West Asia. This tree can reach about 3 m in height. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with large lanceolate leaflets. The racemes are borne at terminal branches and bloom small white flowers from May to June. The fruits ripen in red and turn edible on firing.
