大西洋の東部、カナリア諸島の固有種です。アフリカ北部と同じ砂漠気候に適応しています。葉は長楕円形で羽状に深裂し、茎の先にロゼット状につきます。直径2〜2.5センチほどの黄色い頭花を咲かせます。 
キク科ノゲシ属の多年草で、学名は Sonchus congestus。英名は Anaga sow-thistle。 
The Anaga sow-thistle (Sonchus congestus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to the Canary Islands in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. It adapts to the same desert climate as northern Africa. The leaves are oblong and deeply split into pinnately, with rosettes on the tips of the stems. It blooms yellow flower heads with a diameter of 2 to 2.5 cm.
