アメリカのフロリダ州南部からキューバ、ホンジュラスに分布しています。高さは20〜25メートルになり、幹の中部がやや肥大し、環状紋が目立ちます。葉は大きな羽状複葉で、茎頂にまとまってつきます。小葉は線形で、葉軸の両側に2列に並びます。果実は小さな球形で、油脂を採るのに利用されます。亜熱帯から熱帯地域でよく植栽されています。 
ヤシ科ダイオウヤシ属の常緑高木で、学名は Roystonea regia。英名は Royal palm、Cuban royal palm。 
The Royal palm (Roystonea regia) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to southeastern Florida in the United States, Cuba and Honduras. This palm is a single trunk and can reach 20-25 m in height. The trunk is swollen at the middle and has distinct annular band forms. The leaves are pinnately compound and fascicled on the shoot apex. The linear leaflets are arranged in double rows. The fruits are small globose and used for the raw materials of oils and fats. Royal palm is often planting in the sub-tropic and tropic areas.
