Daubenya aurea、Daubenya aurea var. coccinea)。英名は Jewel of the desert。
The Jewel of the desert (Daubenya coccinea) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the western part of the Cape region of South Africa. It grows on the plains of dolerite clay and is about 5 cm high. It is closely related to the genus Massonia and has only two large elliptic leaves. Cylindrical flowers are red or yellow and bloom densely in the inflorescence. Red stamens and yellow anthers stand out. The flowers bloom in spring, and in summer the above-ground parts die and go to sleep.
