わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国、東アジアに広く分布している「すすき」の園芸品種です。高さは１〜２メートルになり、長線形の葉が叢生します。葉に黄みがかった白い斑が入るのが特徴です。別名で「やはずすすき（矢筈薄）」とも呼ばれます。Ｃ４植物（Ｃ４型光合成を行う植物）です。

イネ科ススキ属の多年草で、学名は Miscanthus sinensis cv. Zebrinus。英名は Zebra grass。

The Zebra grass (Miscanthus sinensis cv. Zebrinus) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is a cultivar of Eulalia. Euralia is distributed widely throughout Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China and East Asia. This herb can reach 1-2 m in height, and the long-linear leaves are crowded. Zebra grass is defined by the yellowish white cross bands. It is a C4 plant (Plants with C4-type photosynthesis).
