アルゼンチンの西部が原産です。結節があり、ゆっくり成長して高さは30センチ以上になります。結節は小さな松ぼっくり状で、それぞれが緩くつながり、簡単に落下します。棘は広くてラフィア(ヤシ)の繊維状、目立って平たくなります。白色または黄色の花を咲かせます。果実は褐色の液果で、1〜5センチの長さがあります。園芸上は「武蔵恐竜」と呼ばれるらしいです 
サボテン科テフロカクツス属の団扇サボテンで、学名は Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus。英名は Paper spine cactus。  
The Paper spine cactus (Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a prickly pear that is native to western Argentina. This cactus is segmented and slowly growing up to up to 30 cm. The segments are little pine-cone shape and loosely attached to each other and fall easily. The spines are broad, raffia like, conspicuous and flattened. It blooms white or yellow flowers. The fruit is a brown berry, 1-5 cm long.
