わが国の固有種で、本州の関東地方・中部地方、紀伊半島に分布しています。亜高山帯に生え、高さは25メートルになります。樹冠は円錐形になり、樹皮は暗赤褐色で、薄い鱗片状に剥離します。葉は扁平な線形で、表面に白い気孔帯が2個あります。5月から6月ごろ、前年枝の先端に雄花と雌花を咲かせます。果実は球果で、円柱形です。写真下は、エゾマツカサアブラムシによる虫えいで、エゾマツシントメカサガタフシ。 
マツ科トウヒ属の常緑高木で、学名は Picea jezoensis var. hondoensis。英名はありません。 
"Touhi" (Picea jezoensis var. hondoensis) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is endemic to Japan and is distributed in the Kanto and Chubu regions and the Kii Peninsula of Honshu. It grows in the subalpine zone and is 25 m high. The canopy is conical and the bark is dark reddish brown with thin scaly flakes. The leaves are flat and linear with two white stomatal zones on the surface. From May to June, male and female flowers bloom at the tips of the branches of the previous year. The fruits are cones and are cylindrical. Below the photo is a gall by the Adelges japonicus, "Ezomatsu-shintome-kasagata-fushi".
