The "Tsuresagi-so" (Platanthera japonica) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is native all over Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and Nepal. This orchid grows in sunny grassland of low mountains, and it can reach 35-60 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic, 5-7 arranged in alternate. The more than a dozen, strong scented, creamy white flowers bloom from May to June. The corolla is about 1.5 cm across and has relatively long spur. It is called "舌唇蘭" (she chun lan) in Chinese.
