わが国の本州、三重・奈良・和歌山県と四国南部それに九州に分布しています。深山の尾根筋や岩場に生え、高さは１．５〜７メートルになります。葉は長楕円形または倒卵状長楕円形で、枝先に密に集まってつきます。裏面には褐色の真綿のような軟毛が密生します。４月から６月ごろ、枝先に紅紫色から淡紅紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は漏斗形で先端が７裂し、雄しべが１４個あります。 |

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rhododendron degronianum var. heptamerum。英名はありません。 |

The "Tsukushi-shakunage" (Rhododendron degronianum var. heptamerum) belongs to Ericacea (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to Mie-Nara-Wakayama Prefecture of Honshu, southern Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This tree grows on deep montain ridges and rocky places, and can reach 1.5-7 m in height. The leaves are oblong or obovate-oblong and densely-arranged on the terminal branches. The abaxial sides of leaves are covered with dense brown wooly hairs. The magenta to pale magenta flowers bloom at the terminal twigs from April to June. The corolla is funnel-shaped with seven partite tips. The flower has 14 stamens. |
