アメリカの南東部、ニュージャージー・カンザス州から南へフロリダ・テキサス州にかけて分布しています。肥沃な林内や川沿い、氾濫原などに生え、高さは60〜150センチになります。群生し、葉は平らな線形です。花は扁平な小穂のなかにつきます。
イネ科チャスマンティウム属の多年草で、学名は Chasmanthium latifolium (syn. Uniola latifolia)。英名は Indian wood-oats、Northern sea oats、Wild oats。
The Indian wood-oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the southeastern United States, from New Jersey-Kansas south to Florida-Texas. This herb grows in rich woods, along streams and flood plains, and can reach 60-150 cm in height. It grows clump-forming and the leaves are flat-linear. The flowers are held in flat spikelets.
